D is for Down Syndrome A Child View ABC of Childhood Challenges Volume 2 Amy E Sturkey PT Ikos Ronzkie 9780998156729 Books Reviews

  • This is a fantastic book to explain Down Syndrome to kids. Beautifully illustrated and well-crafted in its description of the "differences" in DS kids, this will allow parents, teachers, and caregivers to graphically depict these special children to others in a way that engenders respect for them. Above all, people with DS have a huge capacity for love. This is their largest contribution to the world; has the world ever needed love MORE than it does now?

As a dad of a 17-year-old with Down Syndrome, I wholeheartedly endorse and highly recommend this book. The author is a competent professional as a physical therapist, but she lets her love for these children shine through. The artist captures the love, and presents it wonderfully on every page.
  • It's a wonderful book for everybody. And as a mother of wonderful boy with down syndrome this is a perfect book to give to spread Down Syndrome awareness which we are celebrating the whole month of October. Thank you Amy E Sturkey PT (Author), Ikos Ronzkie (Illustrator).
  • D is for Dope; Amy has this wonderful gift of interaction with children. Once you read D is Down Syndrome as well as A is for Autism, you will understand. Reading this book wasn't like reading at all, it felt like a conversation among friends; one child curious as to why his/her friend is different. And despite that difference, friendship, love, and inclusion flourish.
  • This is a delightful book. It has 26 colorful content pages (8 by 10 inches.) Each page has a theme that starts with a letter of the alphabet. I bought it for my four year old grandson. His best buddy has a little sister with down syndrome. This book explains Down Syndrome from "A Childs View."
  • Having read the first book "A" is for Autism by Pediatric Physical Therapist Amy Sturkey, I looked forward to this new book that talks similarly about Down's Syndrome from a Child's perspective. It is a beautiful picture book that captures the emotions, traits, and feelings that a child with or without Down's syndrome can identify with. It gives light and energy to the concept of understanding and appreciating all types of children in keeping with the phrase "The more you know..." the better we all work and play together. A great sharing and learning book that ends with an invitation to be a friend.
  • D Is For Down Syndrome is a lively and engaging child’s perspective on living and learning. With adorable illustrations and simple text, it describes traits and challenges that Down Syndrome children share; and it offers an affirming, optimistic way of meeting each challenge. It encourages patience, understanding and kindness. I’m giving my copy to a friend who teaches preschoolers with special needs, but any young child would enjoy this fun and educational book.
  • D is for Down Syndrome is a well written book about an adorable little girl with Down syndrome. When reading this book I felt as though I was inside the little girls mind and able to gain some understating of what her day to day life is like. I enjoyed reading every page! I found it educational, fun and entertaining. I also loved the beautiful illustrations on each page! I would recommend this book to educators, clinicians, parents, children and anyone who is interested in learning more about Down syndrome.
  • Whereas this book was primarily written for educating little folks about Down Syndrome, it packs a powerful punch for a more compassionate understanding by big folks too. I bought this book as I did her first, "A is for Autism", because I have friends who have children and grandchildren with these conditions. These books would have been most helpful had they been available to me earlier. As a reviewer, I give Ms Sturkey "E" for excellent!
